Dollar Tree: Great for Peanut Butter Crackers and Wedding Swag Too!

In saving money, Wedding on March 17, 2010 at 6:02 pm

I Found myself wandering around william cannon and decided today was the day I would venture into the dollar store. Dollar Tree to be exact. Great place for wedding glassware and fabric flowers if you are using any.  On normal day to day items I left with: 2 boxes of cereal, Campbell’s soups, little peanut butter crackers for lunches, sponges, scrubber brushes, cleaning supplies, swiffer cloths and kitchen towels for under $20. Sweet. One word of warning, I saw soup for less at H-E-B later that day, so don’t be fooled. Items I will go back for come wedding time are: Pint glasses, small cylinder vases, martini glasses (seriously, they’re pretty nice and we don’t have any!) and dish towels.  And they also have great items for purchase by the case online such as wedding bubbles and candles. As you can see, I’m quite excited about this. I’ll take saving money from anywhere I can. Oh and if you’re in that neighborhood (500ish William Cannon.. in Austin) Rick’s cleaner is $2.65 and item for dry cleaning!

Markets and Estate Sales

wimberly-marketI don’t know about you, but I absolutely love outdoor markets. Yep, all of them. Farmer’s, Antique, if its outside, I’m sure I’ll love it. Yesterday Chris, our friends Chris and Christina and I went to Wimberly (a town about an hour out of Austin) Market-Days. This is an outdoor knick knack and and any antique you could imagine fair thats held once a month. I found a burnt orange/grey/cream jacket that fit perfectly for $0.50! Yes, less than a dollar. Chris came away with a 1926 yearbook and our friend Chris and Christina also made out like bandits. And they have sno cones. What more can a girl ask? So find your local market and there early if you are hard core or wander in after noon like we did and cruise the stalls for those hidden, overlooked gems.

If not, there are people willing to give you money for it… and send you a box to ship it in! Gazelle.com will take it all. They’ll even tell you right there on the spot how much you’ll get for it.

Saving Money on Clothing

I like the thrill of new clothes, shoes, bags, or even books. I find myself “needing” quite a few items the very moment  my paycheck hits the bank. Shoes on sale, sweaters, etc. So when it comes to clothes, I honestly try my best to save as much money as possible. And although these suggestions may be familiar, one can never be reminded too much!

1. Discount Stores: If you remember my previous post about Ross, then you know how I feel about these types of stores. I found a gorgeous Calvin Klein suit from Ross for $31. I also absolutely love their kitchen items. I won’t always find what I need, but for sheets, spatulas and the like, I’ve found nothing better. Similar stores such as Marshalls also produce great stuff. Yes you may have to look around a bit, but hey, its worth it. Read the rest of this entry »

Ross: Don’t knock it till you try it!

Over the holidays, I fell in love with a Calvin Klein Suit. It was a pinstriped, gorgeous number and I liked it so much, I allllmost spent $250 on it. But of course, my sensibilities (or bank balance) kicked in and I walked out of the store… then a week later… I say a nearly identical suit at ROSS. And for.. wait… $30! I snatched it and had to call my mother. Yes, I know sad right? But I’m the one sitting pretty in my new Calvin suit. So Ross rocks, period.
