Rooms To Go: Thrifty Furniture?

London Beige Couch

My beau and I were desperately seeking cheap, but somehow still styish furniture for our new “little” apt in Austn and had decided it was between Ashley and Ikea… and then… we saw this very silly looking place called Rooms To Go and while I thought and voiced that it was probably a rental furniture place, Chris (smartly) suggested we go in… and lo and behold the sales people were not attacking us for commission and the furniture was fun, modern-ish and within our price range. The deals start rolling in if you buy the “room” vs just a sofa, etc. Above is the London Beige couch we selected. Tell me what you think. And believe me, I’m still obsessed with ikea, but hey, there will be many more oportunities in my life to take a gander at the ikea land.

Markets and Estate Sales

wimberly-marketI don’t know about you, but I absolutely love outdoor markets. Yep, all of them. Farmer’s, Antique, if its outside, I’m sure I’ll love it. Yesterday Chris, our friends Chris and Christina and I went to Wimberly (a town about an hour out of Austin) Market-Days. This is an outdoor knick knack and and any antique you could imagine fair thats held once a month. I found a burnt orange/grey/cream jacket that fit perfectly for $0.50! Yes, less than a dollar. Chris came away with a 1926 yearbook and our friend Chris and Christina also made out like bandits. And they have sno cones. What more can a girl ask? So find your local market and there early if you are hard core or wander in after noon like we did and cruise the stalls for those hidden, overlooked gems.

Cheap Antiques

Have you ever wanted to venture into the antique world, but didn’t know where to start? Or thought antiques were too expensive? Quite by accident, I landed on craigslistsewing machine typing in “antique” in the furniture space and voila, there were hundreds of fun, affordable antiques with prices just asking to be negotiated. Antique stores add 50 % mark up for doing the same thing! So check out your local craigslist and go antiquing in your pjs!
